SDG&E and Financial Incentives for San Diego Residents
SDG&E Programs and Benefits
Time-of-Use EV Rates San Diego Gas & Electric offers special electricity rate plans designed specifically for EV owners. These Time-of-Use (TOU) plans provide significantly lower rates during off-peak hours (typically 12 AM – 6 AM), allowing you to charge your vehicle when electricity costs are at their lowest.
SDG&E Power Your Drive Program SDG&E has offered various rebate programs for residential EV charging infrastructure. While programs change periodically, SDG&E continues to support EV adoption throughout San Diego County. I stay current on all available SDG&E incentives and can help you navigate the application process.
Federal And California Tax Credits
30% Federal Tax Credit The Inflation Reduction Act provides a federal tax credit of up to 30% of the cost of purchasing and installing an EV charger at your home, with a maximum credit of $1,000. This applies to hardware and installation costs, making professional installation even more affordable.
Requirements:
- The charger must be installed at your primary or secondary residence
- Installation must be completed by a licensed electrician
- Must be placed in service during the tax year claimed
Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) While primarily focused on vehicle purchases, California offers various programs that support EV infrastructure development. The California Energy Commission periodically offers grants and rebates for home charging equipment. In addition to SDG&E programs, various Southern California programs may offer additional incentives for EV infrastructure. I’ll help you identify and apply for all eligible rebates to maximize your savings.
